Health Benefits of Sourdough Bread
*
As if being delicious wasn't enough!
In 2021 I found out I was pre-diabetic. I’ve been an avid runner for years and I do my best to maintain a healthy lifestyle, so the diagnosis was very unexpected. When I learned about the health benefits of sourdough it became more than a hobby for me. I LOVE bread, so I was happy to learn that I could eat sourdough without the glucose spike.
Now I want everyone to experience the health benefits of sourdough bread!
Sourdough Bread Is An Excellent Source of Antioxidants.
Studies have shown that antioxidants found in sourdough can lower the risk for certain types of cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
Sourdough Keeps Blood Glucose Levels More Stable.
The bacteria that help form sourdough have a unique effect on the starch
in the bread, which lowers the bread’s glycemic index.
Sourdough Is Lower In Gluten Than Other Types of Bread.
The acid in the bread degrades gluten, and as a result, many with gluten intolerance find that sourdough is easier on their
digestive system.
Sourdough Bread Is Rich In Nutrients the Body Can
Easily Absorb.
Sourdough is an excellent source of calcium, potassium, magnesium,
folate, and niacin.
Sourdough Bread Acts As A Prebiotic.
Fiber in the bread helps feed “good” bacteria in the intestines. These
bacteria are important for maintaining a stable, healthy digestive system.
